  1. no there is not ever a good reason to take away or rights of freedom of press because they are how we tell people what we really think. an exapmle is facebook; you can write whatever you want on your own wall

  2. I do not agree with that because there are crazy people in the world. For example, i wouldn't want to read in the newspaper about someone who goes into detail about how they want to kill my family. Therefore, i think that we moderately need to have some sort of restrictions of freedom of the press.

  3. I never think there is a good reason to take away ones freedom of speech. One of the great things about our country is that we have freedom of speech and can say what ever we want, but with freedom come respsonsibility(grandma spiderman) and you could get in trouble for something you say. I also think freedom of press is great to keep us aware of what is going on in the world, but i think it should be limited in some cases. Press and paparazi can make someone go crazy. Look at Brittney Spears, she shaved her head off!

  4. Our rights as human beings to exert our opinions with freedom of speech/press should never be deprived. Although we do have various controversial subjects in which others have opposing opinions, it doesn't mean we don't have the right to express those opinions. (Even if their conjectures are ridiculous.) As Voltaire once said, "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." If we close the door of freedom of speech for some topics, why not others? If we begin to exercise authority and control over something as personal as your thoughts, what happens to individuality? What happens to the very basis of man's unique structure? It will fade within the confides of psychic cloning. In an example, i can't remember the name or author of the short story, but i think it may have been by Ray Bradbury. Anyways, basically if you had something unique about you, the government would give you something as a restraint. Beautiful people had to wear bags, free-thinkers we're send giant waves of noise when they'd come up with a productive thought...anyways. This relates because if you begin to take away free speech (with a literal contraption, or a authoritative verbal one) this begins to make everyone the same. There will be no diversity within the world. And a comment on David K's remark about the paparazzi...i do agree that they can be pretty heinous with their accusations on celebrities, but it is really important to stand up for your free expression. Paparazzi and Press basically have the right to say what they want, but you have the right to fight for what you believe as well. And yes, the pressure can get to everyone..ex: Kurt Cobain, Britney Spears, various celebrities in Korea...but fighting for your right to live as you want, feel as you want, and think as you want (without tainting the rights of others) is crucial in modern society.

  5. I think everyone should have the right to talk and write about what they want. However, like Olivia said, there should be a limit to what should be said and what should be kept to yourself. Everyone has the right to have different opinions and ideas but sometimes it's just better to not say anything. We should restrict and create boundaries for ourselves so that we do not go over the line of disrespect for others. People should be careful of what they say, who they say it to, and where they say it, because it is possible to be punished for saying/writing certain things depending on the circumstances.
An example would be in a classroom. This is a daily thing for students. Why do teachers tell you to "stop talking and do your work" and "no talking- if you talk during the test I'll give you a 0"? In cases like this, I don't think it is about the right to freedom of speech and what not, but more of a policy issue. I mean, it only makes sense that in an orderly society there are rules, and we follow them. This isn't taking away any freedom; you still have the choice to break the rules and talk anyway- however you will be punished for your actions. During a test, it is reasonable to not talk because what is the point of a test? To test one's knowledge in a particular subject. If one talks during it, who knows if that person is cheating or not? To get back to the point- not talking in a classroom relates to being respectful and restricting yourself for your fellow classmates and teacher.
Another real-life example would be when having a discussion on a sensitive topic such as religion or politics. Many people have many different views about topics such as these. To be specific, it is okay to express your ideas, but I do not think it is okay to speak in a negative way about a certain religion especially if a person of that religion is present. That is just out of the question. Restriction is definitely needed in situations like these.
Overall, we should never be deprived of the right to freedom of speech and freedom of press, but one should seriously consider and limit themselves in doing so.

  6. no there is never a good reason to take away some ones freedom of speech because it is a right that every one should have. An example of why freedom of speech is good freedom could be America and how our country functions well with freedom of speech. I think if there was no freedom in speech in this country there would be a lot more chaos.

  7. I think there are a few forms of press that should be limited. Press can be expressed through the internet, yet things like videos of animals being abused and child pornography circulate and spread throughout it. Freedom of speech and press are already limited in many ways. If we indeed had freedom of speech, the events of May 4, 1970, at Kent State University wouldn't have happened.

  8. Freedom of speech and press are one of the most fundamental rights that we are entitled to by our constitution. Many people embrace this right and state their own opinion about how poorly the government is run or about any unjust taxes they are forced to pay. For example, the American Revolution was caused when the colonist expressed their unhappiness with the British government. If the colonists didn’t have the right to their own opinion, America would still be dominated by the British.

  9. No, there is never an appriopriate time to take away the people's freedom of speech or freedom of press. The united state's bill of rights gave us the right to freedom of speech for us to be able to be INDIVIDUALISTIC. If people were not able to be that way a corrupt nation could stay corrupt because the people were not allowed to think differently. Same goes for the freedom of press. My example would be my first current event... A corrupt leader takes away the right of freedom of press from opposing political groups. Thats just not right!

  10. i feel like freedom of speech and freedom of the press are amazing rights to have. but i still think that they should be censored somewhat. there will always be people who are extremeists and will say anything to the public. an example of people being extreme is cult leaders who draw people in and host mass murders or have the people do things they wouldnt normally do. so i feel like we should still always have these freedoms but still not be completely able to say what wed all like to the public

  11. i don't think there is ever a good reason to take away someone's freedom of speech or press because if you did then we would just be"dumb and silent being led, like sheep to the slaughter." (george washington). however i think there should be policies, as not so much restrictions on peoples rights to what they can say. i also think people shouldn't be able to put what they say into action, like hitler, or the K.K.K. did, and some people may need to have heavier restrictions, because if you say whatever you want you may scare people, and then you would be a terrorist, and that makes you no better then osama bin laden. as for freedom of press i think there should policies created by an unbiased group of people. if there is too much freedom then people would say bad thing and cause other people to in turn do stupid things. if no freedom then people would not be informed about things that they need to know and would only know about what "the man" wants them to know. also if we didn't have freedom of speech then think of all the scientific and revolutionary evolutionary theories thoughts and ideas people have come up with over the years, thanks to freedom of speech. so over all i think its like Voltire said "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"........but if people are allowed to go overboard and say whatever they want then we will have all these ideas converging into a tryfecta, causing an overlapsation situation of divergent ideas causing a giant war like what we have in iraq right now.

  12. I dont think there is ever a good reason to take away a human's right to freedom of speech and press, but certain restrictions and limits are necessary for the world we live in. For example, radio hosts and people on talk shows are not allowed to just say whatever they feel like because of who is watching. Whatever they say may not be age appropriate or could be extremely offensive to some. Slight restrictions on their very public speech prevents any damage to the community. Aside from instances such as these, humans should be allowed to express their freedom of speech and freedom of press consistently.

  13. No, I dont think there is every any reason to take away our freedom of speech. We should be able to say or express anything on how we feel without any restrictions. But obviously there has to be some boundaries depending on the situation. For example if you are with a group of kids there are certain things that are appropriate to say and inappropriate. But overall the Declaration of Independence declared us to the right o freedom of speech and I think each citizen is entitled to their own personal opinions.

  15. Freedom of press and speech is something that should be valued in todays society. If this right is taken away from us, our very own country will be torn apart and will be susceptible to dictatorship just as Nazi Germany was. When citizens are not allowed to express their opinions, they can be controlled very easily which can lead to a second economic depression. Their is not one reason that the stealing of our freedom of speech and press would benefit society, or our country for that matter.

  16. there is never a good reason to take away someones freedom of speech its their opinion. Everyopne has their own perspective and you can express how you see things. For example:People have talk shows and a lot of times their are people who don't know what their taking about. People are able to express whatever opinion they have no matter how extreme. Most of the general public is smart enough to decide for themselves what is right and wrong.

  17. no there will be no reason to take our rights away. There are countries who wished to have those rights. The freedom of press and speech both regulate the governments with strong constitutions. We are destined to have the right to live freely and share our interests in public or in newspapers or even in the media.

  18. No I do not think there is a good reason to take away the rights of freedom of press because we must express whatever opinion we have, no matter what extreme. I think that people are smart enough to know right from wrong and to make decisions for themselves.

  19. No there is never a good time to take away someones freedom of speech. If people could take that away we probably wouldn't have known much about the oil spill that happened or other big things that happened that could make the government look bad.
